About the event
GIVE LIGHT: Stories from Indigenous Midwives, is a new award-winning PBS documentary film by Steph Smith that explores the experiences of indigenous midwives in their home environments. Highlighting the systemic suppression across five continents, this film tells the stories of their work, juxtaposed against the often unnecessary interventions currently in the medical industry worldwide. The film team recently received sponsorship for a university tour to engage students in conversations around reproductive justice and integrative medicine. This insightful film explores the maternity care crisis worldwide and moves audiences towards bridging the gap between traditional wisdom and modern technology.
“Women are the first environment. We all come from a woman.” - Katsi Cook, Mohawk Midwife
GIVE LIGHT has screened at prestigious conferences, film festivals, and universities. It has been praised by leaders in the maternity care field for its contribution to improving maternity care and the preservation of traditional wisdom.
The film has been accepted for distribution nationwide on public television, and there are underwriting/sponsorship spots available.
Underwriting Give Lights Public television broadcast would give organizations exposure to millions of educated viewers. The film team can create a specific recognition (promotional) spot for sponsoring organization. The film director will be available to discuss these opportunities after the screening.
